My Digital Host, David, and I remember using this back in West Hill High School, when we had the Computer Science class. This is an Apple II computer, although we are not sure if it is a Plus or an E. As you can see, the screen is green. Colored Monitors were a rarity although we did have one in class. The last one that we made about the first Hard Disk, there was an ERROR in our presentation. My Digital Host, David, and I mistakenly called the disk 305 Ramac. The 305 Ramac is the Mainframe computer which was the first to have the Hard Drive that was only 5 MB of data. In 1956 the IBM 305 RAMAC was also the biggest computer every built at that time. My Digital Host, David, and I are not sure if this is a MAINFRAME or a Super Computer. We do know that these Machines used Tape Reels for data storage most of the time. In 1956, IBM unveiled the world’s first commercial hard disk drive: the IBM 305 RAMAC. It weighed over a ton and could store just 5 megabytes of data, less than a single high-resolution photo today. Its storage unit used 50 massive 24-inch platters to read and write data using magnetic heads. Fast forward to today, and we now carry terabytes of data in drives smaller than a deck of cards. What once required a forklift now fits in your pocket. This leap in data storage shows just how far computing has come and how fast innovation can change the game.
